Photographic Services

Stock Photography

Over 12,000 photographs of natural history subjects are offered on a per use basis. All of the photographs are on slow speed, high resolution 35mm transparency film. None are for outright sale. I do not sell prints from the stock files, with a few exceptions for good overseas clients. Pricing is dependent on use, publication and type of rights sought. An abbreviated catalog is available on line. For more information, and to inquire about specific images you may need, please please contact us. When an image is ordered, there are several easy delivery options, depending on your need. We can send the original or a high quality duplicate. An electronic file can be transmitted via the Internet or shipped via Federal Express on a CD-ROM or Zip disk. But the easiest and fastest method is transmission via broadband technology. An electronic file can be at any resolution or in any format you require, including Adobe Photoshop .PSD file.

If your requirements include photographs that are not in the stock file and you have some reasonable time available before publication, assignments may be undertaken. In most cases I can advise the proper location, time of day/year to obtain the desired photograph. The time available for this type of work is extremely limited, so please give as much advance notice as possible. To inquire about assignment photography, please send e-mail.

Classes on natural history photography are available by reservation only. Classes may be in a classroom setting, in the field, or both, depending on your learning goals. The best learning experiences in the field are dependent on a small class size, so the upper limit is six, unless there is a good reason to extend that number. Individual tutoring and consultation is also available. Classes can be held in a variety of natural environments within Southern California, depending on your individual interests. Classes are scheduled at your convenience, outside of normal working hours. The classes cover both topics of photography and natural history. When inquiring about classes, please tell me a little about the experience level of yourself and your group. If a member of your group is a bona fide expert in a field of natural history, the price of the class can be reduced. Optional class formats are also available, such as critique of existing work, self-assignments with critique, etc. Tell me what your goals are, and I'll help you get there. Each class is priced independently, depending on class size, learning goals, time involved, experience level of participants, etc. To inquire about classes, please send e-mail.

Lectures can be given on a variety of natural history and photographic subjects. Please contact me with details on your requirements, scheduled dates, etc. Lectures are very much like classes, without the field experience. The field work is usually the most valuable part of the overall experience, so please consider carefully whether a class might be appropriate for your needs.
